Internship Programme Guidelines – INST Mohali

  1. Internship applicants must be currently enrolled in a recognized academic institution. Eligible candidates include students in the 3rd year of B.Sc, 3rd or 4th year of B.Tech, 1st or 2nd year of M.Sc/M.Tech, and 3rd, 4th, or 5th year of BS-MS programs. The internship is only open to students who are officially affiliated with their parent institution during the internship period. Candidates who have completed their postgraduate studies are not eligible.
  2. The duration of the internship must be a minimum of two months and may extend up to a maximum of one year.
  3. Prospective interns must directly express their interest in working with a specific faculty member by email (https://www.inst.ac.in/scientists). Applicants are advised to contact only one faculty member at a time. If the faculty member does not respond or declines after a follow-up, the applicant may then contact another faculty member. Simultaneous applications to multiple faculty members will result in disqualification.
  4. Once a faculty member agrees to host an intern, faculty will forward the application through the Head of the Department (HoD) to the Internship Cell for further processing.
  5. Selected interns are required to pay a one-time internship fee of ₹2,000 plus 18% GST prior to joining. Please note that no fee waivers will be granted under any circumstances.
  6. Accommodation is not provided. Interns must arrange their own stay, as hostel facilities are reserved for Ph.D. scholars.
  7. All interns must undergo mandatory safety training conducted by the institute’s safety team. Only those who successfully pass the preliminary safety assessment will be allowed to enter laboratory premises.
  8. Interns must be accompanied by Ph.D. students while working in the laboratory and are not permitted to work alone under any circumstances.
  9. Interns are strictly prohibited from operating big laboratory instruments independently.
  10. Interns may avail outpatient (OPD) medical consultation at INST for minor medical conditions.
  11. Once approved, the internship duration is fixed. No extensions will be considered beyond the approved internship term.
