Period: 11 March, 2020 - Present

Dear All,

I feel privileged to get an opportunity for being part of the Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali (Punjab), an autonomous institution of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, which has been established under the umbrella of NANO MISSION, initiated by DST to boost research and development in the field of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in India. INST started its activities on 3rd January 2013 from a transit campus. It gives me immense pleasure that through careful planning and a collective effort, the institute succeeded to move to its beautiful new campus, amidst a very difficult period of a pandemic. This shows the resolve of the institute to attain great heights in the future. Sprawling over 35 acres of land, the institute is fully functional with state of art labs along and with amenities for a lively residential campus, which will catalyze an enormous opportunity to become a globally leading institution in research and innovation.

It’s a matter of great pride that the faculties have made significant scientific contributions, as reflected by the quality as well as the number of research publications from INST.I am glad to share that INST is now among the top three DST institutes in Chemistry as Nature index ranking, 2021, within a very short period. It is heartening to find that the institute has immense potential and desire to progress, as evidenced by the nature ranking index of 2021, where INST has surged to 24 th rank among academic institutes of India from the 32 nd rank secured in 2020. INST has a total of 247 Ph.D. and postdoctoral researchers, with the addition of 80 researchers in the past year itself. I strongly believe that our combined efforts would bring out not only the best in their careers but the best in their lives. To further strengthen this effort, INST has initiated special schemes within its internship program for motivating young students to pursue their careers in nanoscience and technology. In this way, we hope to support not only individuals but also the entire society from which we all benefit.

I feel contented that INST is working as a team to bring the institute to the forefront of the research map of Nano Science and Technology at a fast pace. This is a great achievement and a matter of pride for INST. We have a very good support system with administrative staff members, which have been relentlessly helping the Institute in its pursuit of excellence in Science. The institute is on a mission to address problems in the field of energy, environment, quantum materials, nano-devices, and chemical biology. I am quite confident that the institute with its continued efforts will be globally a leading research institute in the area of nanoscience and nanotechnology, where efforts in research will ultimately translate to build a healthy and prosperous society.

I would like to conclude by the saying of Nelson Mandela, “A winner is a dreamer who never gives up” so keep up the good work.

I wish my INST family all the very best.
