About Outreach

INST started in January 2013 and from the beginning was involved in shaping an outreach programme which would have the involvement of students from schools and colleges, especially towards motivating them towards science with a key aim of sensitizing children to the presence of science at nanodimensions and their applications in real world. However, it was also decided to go out to rural and less endowed children to promote the idea to continue in education for the betterment of society.  It was felt that science education was vital to to develop a scientific temper which was essentially to logically understand many of the problems and their solutions in modern day-to-day life.  INST’s proposal to initiate outreach programme to the Research and Academic Advisory Council (RAAC) at its 1st meeting held on 17th September 2013  was strongly endorsed and INST introduced an outreach programme in early 2014. INST has successfully covered first programme i.e. 80 lectures series and also initiated another programme Chhatra Protsahan Vyakhyan Shrankhla (CPVS-INST) in May 2015 and North East Educational Development (NEED-INST) in October 2015 specifically for the North Eastern states.  As a part of these programmes, in the last two years (2014-2015), the INST Outreach Programme has already covered more than 150 schools in rural/remote areas in the state/UT of Uttrakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Meghalaya. This apart, INST has been involved in promoting the recognition of outstanding teachers and meritorious students and has initiated INST Outreach Awards.

We are delighted and that several schools in rural/backward/hilly areas have shown interest and have come forward to participate in this endeavour of INST as a result of which many of the young students are coming to limelight when they get recognition in the form of Prizes introduced by INST for various categories of students and teachers as well, as detailed on website separately.

INST wishes to continue to pursue this programme to promote science and technology amongst the next generation in schools and colleges.
