1. I am in the final year of Masters’s degree. Am I eligible to apply for the Ph.D. programme?
    Yes

 

2. I am in my first year of the Master’s degree. Am I eligible to apply for the Ph.D. program?
    No

 

3. I do not have GATE or NET. Am I eligible to apply? 
    You should have qualified any one of the following: GATE/CSIR-UGC-NET (LS NET also)/JEST/JGEEBILS(TIFR/NCBS)/ICMR-JRF/DBT-JRF/DST-INSPIRE.

 

4. Is there a part-time Ph.D. program at INST?
    No

 

5. Is there an application fee?
    Yes. Rs. 450 for General/OBC. Rs. 150 for SC/ST/PH

 

6. I do not have any fellowship for PhD.  Do candidates selected for PhD get any financial assistance?
    Yes. Candidates selected for PhD will get fellowship according to CSIR-UGC norms.

 

7. How many seats are there for PhD admission this year?
    There are no fixed number of seats for PhD program in any year.

 

8. I am a JRF for 3 years. Can I join your institute as SRF?
    No. You have to join as JRF at INST.

 

9. The results of my qualifying exams are awaiting. Can I still apply?
    Yes. Please indicate your registration number in the application form. Also please intimate us with your status as soon as the results are declared.

 

10. Shall I get any TA for attending the interview?
    No TA support will be there for attending the interview.

 

11.When am I supposed to join INST?
    The PhD program will begin in August and January every year.

 

12. Do I need to take courses?
    Yes. PhD program at INST has a 24 credit course work to be completed in 1 year.

 

13. How to choose a research area?
